How to Pick Your Floor Plan

Your Event’s Floor Plan

Spoiler alert: trust the experts.

Your venue and/or your wedding planner have produced hundreds of weddings.  You’ve had…0? 1? 2?  That means they’ve seen it all – from the disasters to the flawlessly executed weddings.  And while you may have attended both – you probably don’t know what was happening behind the scenes.

Needed Information

Here’s the cool part about your floor plan – you don’t have to worry about it.  That said, there are some essential decisions to make that influence your floor plan.  All you need to do is answer these questions:

  1. What meal style do you want?  (buffet, plated, food stations, cocktail-style, family-style)
  2. Will there be dancing?
  3. Where is your ceremony, and where is the reception?
  4. Do you want assigned mealtime seating, or do you want guests to find their own seat?

The Bottom Line

That’s it!  With that information, the experts will advise you on where everyone should be seated, where you should host the cocktail hour (essential so that guests have something to do while you take a few photos), and what happens when dinner is over.

Feel free to ask questions about their proposed layouts, but at the end of the day, they know what works for guest flow, visibility, and spacing.  Trust the experts!
